Hello,

Is it possible to change path_size in metapost without recompiling it?

Thanks,

Denis

yes, you need just the mp binary, the pool file and the plain mp format
(and probably a texmf.cnf file to tell mp where to find things).

For simple text in PostScript (non-TeX) you might also need a
rudimentary psfonts.map file and the the .tfm files of the used fonts
(which you can generate by afm2tfm from .afm files). Then e. g. to use
Times-Roman, you write in the .mp file

prologues := 1;
defaultfont := "ptmr8r";

which is mapped by psfonts.map to Times-Roman font, if a ptmr8r entry is
there.

Greetings Hartmut

Subject: [metafont] how can I expand `linearform'?

Hello,

Sometimes, metapost displays the value of an unknown
variable as `linearform'. For instance, I have a pair whose value is

  p=(linearform,ypart b)

How can I display the `linearform' value completely?
Even tracingall doesn't show it...

I checked the metafont source and `linearform' is controlled
by the `verbosity' variable (in mf.web), but a quick glimpse
at the source didn't show where `verbosity' is set.

Thanks,

Denis

Stupid me... It is the last parameter of print_exp (section 789 of mp.web).
However, I still don't know how I can expand `linearform'

Have you tried showdependencies?

Of course, only in the second pass, after processing somehow the log file,
you can make use of the information. (To Hans Hagen: isn't that a
candidate for yet another item to be added to the wish-list for feasible
extensions to MP?)

No, but I tried all tracing... and I still didn't get the result I wanted.
I have now tried showdependencies and even loggingall and I still get
`linearform'. This is what is displayed by showvariable.
Maybe it can't be changed?

I am sorry not to provide an example, but it is part of
a soon-to-be-released package and if I have not found an answer
at the time I make the package public (within a few days), I'll
ask the question again.

Denis

Have you found an answer? Or can you perhaps provide an example?
I'm interested very much in the problem.

No.

Not yet, I am waiting for my package to appear on CTAN
(please...).

I'm not urging you! I'm just eager to learn... ;-)

Subject: [metafont] metaobj

Hello,

My new package for metapost has just made its way to CTAN:

  graphics/metapost/contrib/macros/metaobj/

It provides high-level functions to define and
manipulate objects. There is a standard library
of objects and many examples are given.
metaobj more or less implements all the node connection
functions from PSTricks, its many options, trees,
matrices, etc.

Have fun!

Denis

Congratulations! I've read the manual yesterday and
it's quite impressive. I've just hacked a little
metapost library myself but will probably change it
to use metaobj primitives.

Thanks for the work!
