Hi everybody,

my name is Nils and unfortunately I have a problem with the LaTeX package
feynmp (to draw Feynman diagrams) and/or MetaPost. I hope someone of you
will be so kind to help me.

First I run the tex-file, but then when I run MetaPost on my file fd1.mp, I
get the following errors:

I did *not* touch the file feynmp.mp! Any help would be very much
appreciated.

Kind regards,
Nils

That would be a reasonable supposition, but feynmp.mp redefines
define_blacker_pixels (so does feynmf.mf). That is not the problem.
Offhand I would guess a missin closing parenthesis.

It is impossible to say where the error is without seeing the tex-file
(or a shorter version of it) or the resultant fd1.mp.

Normally one doesn't see 2002 EXPR parameters for one function.
That suggests a missing closing parenthesis. Either in a corrupted
feynmp.mp or even feynmp.sty, but most likely in one of the environments
in the tex file.

Would you be so kind to have a look at them? A relevant part of the tex-file
is

I got a fresh feynmp.mp off the net and replaced the old one with it.
Several months ago, everything was still working; I have no idea what
happened to give me these problems...

Thank you very much for all your efforts.

These worked just fine for me. A couple of possibilities:

- An old version of one file and a new version of another. Did you install
both feynmp.sty and feynmp.mp in the correct places and refresh the
filename database? (Or use MiKTeX's package update program.)

- Another package accidentally redefining some feynmp command. Make sure
your test uses only the feynmp package.

- Did you use a script that automatically runs mpost? (e.g., mptopdf)
Did you create your .tex file inside of a directory below localtexmf? In
these cases sometimes updated files are not recognized as updated until
the filename database is refreshed.

I would suggest you examine the .log output from both latex and mpost and
determine exactly the location of all files used. Then check that they are
all from the new version of feynmp. And that the file fd1.mp and fd1.t1
are found and are the expected ones. Also, make sure you run latex, mpost
and latex again in that order. Finally, if you used MiKTeX's package update,
try downloading the feynmf package (directory macros/latex/contrib/feynmf
on CTAN, run latex on the .ins file and run your test in the same directory
(just in case the MiKTeX-installed version is corrupted).

That's all I can think of.

First of all: thank you very much for the time you take to consider my
problem. I got the newest version of the whole of feynmf from CTAN,
re-installed it, refreshed the filename database using

initexmf --update-fndb

and stripped the tex-file (which is not below localtexmf) of everything but
the essential commands and packages. It did not help. What can now possibly
be the problem? Would you take another look at the log files I attach to
this email? IŽd be so glad to have this problem solved.

Kind regards,
Nils
