The system works under MS-Windows 3.1/9X/NT (with ATM installed). The system includes complete GUI (Text editor, DVI Viewer, Help system), an updated version of the BaKoMa Fonts, TeX processor with friends (TeX, BibTeX, MakeIndex, MetaPost, DVIPS, DVICopy), and installation program. The system supports using of scalable fonts (PostScript Type 1 and Type 3 font formats) and importing of PostScript graphics into documents. The system supports generation of PDF and printing on any printer supported by a driver under MS Windows. The system supports standard compliant TDS and efficiently works with several large TEXMF trees. The GUI is extendable and programmable. 2) Hardware and Sowftware Requirements. --------------------------------------- - An IBM PC 386/486/Pentium or compatible computer; - 4 MB RAM minimum, however 8 MB RAM recomended; - MS-DOS 5.0 or higher, MS Windows 3.1(1), ATM 3.0 or higher or MS Windows 95/98, ATM 3.0 or higher or MS Windows NT (V 4.0), ATM 4.0 - At least 20 MB available hard disk space (50 MB for complete installation); - Any Windows supported monitor and graphics card (At least, resolution 800 x 600 dots is recomended); - Printer with PostScript engine or one supported by a MS Windows driver. 3) Registration, Licensing Agreement, Disclaimer. ------------------------------------------------- This software package, including the Type 1 fonts in it, is copyright Basil Malyshev 1997, 1998. All rights are reserved. This package is distributed as shareware (try-before-you-buy software). The package may be used for an evaluation period of 28 days. Any further use requires your registration as a user and payment of a licence fee. Note that distribution of PDF files generated by this package is allowed only for registered users. The licence fee is US $30 for a private individual's license and US $400 for a site license or commercial licence. Payment can be in cash directly to the author, or in a wide variety of forms via the Kagi payment service, using the program "Register" included in this package. Licence payments in anticipation of future use would provide encouraging support for the BaKoMa TeX System project. 4) Instalation -------------- 1. Install ATM, if it isn't yet installed. 2. Run the installation program D1\INSTALL.EXE. (It requires following disks: D1, D2, D3, F1, F2, F3, F4, F5). 3. Under Windows 3.1 and Windows 9X you must reboot your computer. Under Windows NT you must run ATM Control Panel and install the fonts from PSFONTS directory of the TeX root directory. (Unhappily, the installer does not yet manage to install the ATM fonts under Windows NT). 5) Usefull Remarks: ------------------- *** Windows 3.1 and Windows 95/98 *** To run INSTALL.EXE, you must have Adobe Type Manager (ATM) already installed. If you don't have ATM, or if your ATM is older than Version 3.0, you can install free Adobe Acrobat Reader Version 2.0, which includes (and installs) ATM Version 3.0. The file ACROREAD.EXE, that you can hopefully find posted near to this package will install it. (Starting with Version 2.1, the free Acrobat Reader does not include ATM.) *** Windows NT *** If you install the system under Windows NT you will not be able to install the free ATM from Acrobat Reader 2.0. In this case, you can still install this system without ATM. However, it is urgently recomended to install ATM 4.0 for NT [To get information about ATM look www.adobe.com] and install fonts distributed with the system by using `ATM Control Panel' but NOT by using `Windows Control Panel/Fonts'. Warning: latter would try convert the fonts into TrueType font format with an disastrous glyph remapping. *** If you have not yet choosen which system to run under *** It is recomended to run this software under the NT version of Windows, because ATM 4.0 for NT works several times faster. Remember that, to run the software under Windows NT, you must have ATM and add fonts manually, after running the installation program. ------------------------ end of README file ---------------------------
