Sendoukas (DVIWIN author). It's not yet officially distributed, but I got a beta version several months ago. The following questions often appear in comp.text.tex or in my mail box. Let me try to answer to them... What is wtex? Wtex is a collection of virtex/initex, bibtex, makeindex, and dvicopy executables and provides interface to independent programs such as DVIWIN, a spelling checker, etc. It can be called by your favorite tex shell, such as TeXtelmExtel, MicroEmacs for Windows, etc. or it can run as a stand-alone application. I believe it also supports code paging. Tex and bibtex support a big/huge memory. On what platform? Sendoukas already released a Windows NT version, called bctex. I believe the official wtex will run on Windows 3.1 (and probably Windows 95). I got a beta test version of wtex running on Windows 3.1. I believe it will run under Windows 95. But I am not sure if its file name support is restrited to 8+3 under Window 95. It is a 32 bit application. So win32s is required under Windows 3.1, but I believe it is not requred under Windows 95. Oh, it's not a DOS program ... it is a native 32 bit Windows application! How fast? According to my quick tests, wtex ran a bit faster than emTeX and gTeX running in Windows' DOS box. How reliable? I used the beta version of wtex for a while, I mean for a few months, and I had no problem at all. (I used MicroEmacs for Windows as a shell.) How big? The beta version I have ... wtex.exe 78K wtex.hlp 32K bctex.dll 250K (This is the tex executable.) bcbibtex.dll 117K (This is the bibtex executable.) dvicopy and makeindex: not available at that time When will it be officially released? Nobody, except Sendoukas, knows. I would *discourage* you from sending e-mail messages to Sendoukas to ask about the release date. (If I were Sendoukas, I definitely would not like to be bothered!) Can I (Young Ryu) send you the beta version? Sorry, no. Sendoukas asked me not to distribute the beta version.
